Teaching

Yonaira's philosophy is driven by Freireian dialogical teaching approaches where the instructor engages with individuals in a reflexive dialogue that fosters interactive learning. Health Communication and Health Inequities Across the U.S. and P.R. (Rutgers Global)

This program provides an opportunity for a diverse group of students to examine health inequities with an emphasis on health communication and community engagement. The course explores health inequities and health communication among marginalized Puerto Rican communities that have been impacted by climate change, weather-related disasters, colonialism, and other structural issues impacting health inequities. Together with students and faculty from the University of Puerto Rico's School of Public Health, enrolled students have the opportunity to develop a health communication plan to assist a local community organization in achieving their outcomes.
